Ben Affleck Addresses Backlash About Landing the Role of Batman

After his disastrous breakup with Jennifer Lopez in 2004 and his role in the flop film Gigli, Affleck has been spending recent years building his career back up to its prior height. This point in his career can be most characterized by the work he spent with fellow actor Matt Damon on Good Will Hunting. His most notable attempts to rebuild his reputation include his work writing, directing, and starring in the recent blockbusters The Town and Argo, the latter of which won the best picture Oscar last year.
Now with the announcement that Affleck will be putting on a cape and cowl to face down Henry Cavill’s Superman, a frenzy of criticism around his career has risen again. The press and the Internet have both been ablaze with questions for Affleck, including wondering whether he is trying to undermine all the progress his career has made in the last decade.
To these demands Affleck asks his fans to trust him as he told Playboy magazine, “why would I make the movie if I didn’t think it was going to be good and that I could be good in it?”
Wrapping up his thoughts on the upcoming film, Affleck told the interviewer, “I’ve learned it doesn’t matter what people think before a movie comes out; what matters is what people think when they see the movie.”
