New “Godzilla” Trailer Offers a Better Glimpse into the Monstrous Blockbuster

The trailer for the highly anticipated remake of Godzilla has premiered in advance of its May 16 debut. If you are a fan of the old Godzilla film, action scenes, visual effects, or Bryan Cranston, this movie seems to appeal to all of those interests.
A brilliantly epic score opens the trailer and sets the mood for the entirety of its 2:33 run. It introduces post-Breaking Bad Bryan Cranston, who brings much of his old characters intensity, not to the woes of the meth game, but instead to an apocalyptic world.
The scene is purely chaotic, from a city full of people running in terror to buildings crashing and creating the idea of a warzone. It appears that a bomb has gone off in the city and created mass destruction. There is then an epic flood that fills the streets–and probably the viewer’s heart–with anxiety.
After a minute of tumultuous action, the trailer gets the back story of this apocalyptic event. The music gets softer to encourage the viewer to listen to how the government is dealing with what is causing the event. Then you see the spikes of a creature come up from the ocean, followed by a volcanic eruption and a tsunami. People are still evading what is actually causing these disasters.

It cuts to a voice-over of Cranston saying, “You have no idea what’s coming.” Then the trailer introduces the other star of the film, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Johnson’s shining moment of the trailer is his line, “Can you kill it?” Now you know it’s an “it”! The trailer cuts to military people jumping from a plane, looking as if they’re going to war. It then moves to a shot of the city covered in darkness. One may then take a moment to think, “Wow, I hope this never happens to my city…”
The war scene grows increasingly more intense with military planes being batted out of the sky and flare guns shooting up to shed light on the “thing” that has been attacking the city. The score then changes to loud, aggressive music matched by a montage of action to finally show the actual thing: Godzilla! The music changes again to sound like a dragon’s roar, and the screen fades into the title, all in red.
The trailer is excitingly terrifying from beginning to end. The action and effects seem to be expertly executed, and they can only be bigger and more incredible in the full-length movie. Godzilla is only seen at a glance, but it is visually impressive. The face alone invokes fear; the full image will be magnificent. The performances of the actors were shown on a much smaller scale than the action, but from the short preview, they seem to match the brilliance of the visual effects.
This impressive trailer will definitely raise expectations for the blockbuster remake, so hopefully the film won’t disappoint.
