Tonight on CBS something truly amazing will happen, Supergirl and The Flash will crossover for one epic episode of television. Since CBS announced Supergirl would be coming to the small screen, DC TV fans wondered if Supergirl would crossover with Arrow and/or The Flash. After a lot of work, it’s finally happening and fans could not be more excited.
The Supergirl/The Flash crossover entitled “World’s Finest” will follow The Flash (Grant Gustin) as he tries to get faster in order to take on Zoom. His super speed will cause him to jump dimensions and wind up on the parallel Earth of Superman and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). The Flash will help Supergirl and her team fight the Silver Banshee (Italia Ricci) and Livewire (Brit Morgan) in exchange for her helping him return home. The crossover event has already caused quite a stir amongst fans and it looks like it will be the event you do not want to miss.
Both Gustin and Benoist starred on FOX’s hit show Glee, however they never actually shared a scene together. From behind the scenes footage, Benoist and Gustin look like they had the time of their lives filming the massive crossover. In an interview with Variety, Benoist discussed working alongside Gustin. She says, “He’s so fun, it was really just a good time. I think both of us feel the same way about how we want a set to feel and what it means to lead a show the way that we have to, in the positions that we’re in. I think we have really similar outlooks and it was fun to swap stories about how hard this job can be, the difficulties and challenges, but also how rewarding it is. We can’t believe that both of us are doing what we’re doing.”

In previous crossover events like Arrow/The Flash or even the new film Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), the two central superheroes seem to have clashing egos. This does not seem to be the case for Supergirl/The Flash. Barry Allen and Kara Danvers both have very similar personalities. Both characters are bright, upbeat and at times a little quirky, which already makes them a perfect fit for one another. Just from sneak peeks released, Barry and Kara’s personalities click instantaneously. Also, who doesn’t want to see The Flash and Supergirl race to see who is the fastest? Calling back to an iconic Superman vs. The Flash speed race, Supergirl will provide fans with a similar race in tonight’s episode.
Barry also arrives at the perfect time for Kara. With Kara losing the trust of National City because of a Red Kryptonite incident and Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Hank (David Harewood) off on a secret mission, Kara needs a friend and mentor more than ever. Similar to when The Flash began, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) acted as a wiser, superhero mentor to Barry. Now, Barry gets to tutor Kara in all things super. Supergirl and The Flash fans will be in for a real treat when the duo meet tonight. In the same interview with Variety, Benoist says “There’s also a joy about it that she’s found someone like her, someone that has these powers and loves to help people. So I think there’s a really nice give and take between the two of them that instills more confidence in her when she really needs it.”
Supergirl’s recent episodes have also been building to the epic emergence of the Silver Banshee, portrayed by Italia Ricci. The character of Siobhan Smythe was introduced four episodes ago and her emergence as the Silver Banshee has been long awaited. In the crossover episode, the Silver Banshee will realize that she cannot defeat two superheroes, so she enlists Livewire to help her eliminate Supergirl and The Flash. From behind the scenes photos, Ricci’s portrayal of the Silver Banshee already seems monumental for Supergirl and having her first episode be during the crossover will add to the epic nature.

Supergirl and The Flash meeting gives fans a glimmer of hope for the possibility of an epic crossover between these two shows and Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. In an interview with Variety, Gustin says, “It’s another stepping stone in what we all hope will be continuing to connect this whole universe and all these shows,” Hopefully someday Benoist’s Supergirl will be able to meet Oliver Queen.
Other interactions fans hope happen in the future? Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) meeting. Since his introduction, Winn has proven to have very similar characteristics to Felicity and Cisco and it would be a real treat to see the three of them, or really any character from Supergirl, interact with Felicity and Cisco. Although Barry is the only character that will appear in Supergirl tonight, fans can expect several name drops of other DC TV character. In a sneak peek released, The Flash asks Supergirl is she’s ever heard of “Green Arrow,” “Black Canary” or even “Atom.” Hopefully the entire episode will offer up little easter eggs for fans of all four Greg Berlanti led TV shows .
The crossover could also help boost Supergirl’s overall ratings. Since its premiere in October, Supergirl’s ratings have put it in the bottom half of CBS’s programing in total viewers. Meanwhile, The Flash averages 6 million viewers per episode, which makes it The CW’s number one series. Hopefully fans of The Flash will tune in tonight and help give Supergirl the boost in viewers it clearly deserves. As of today, Supergirl still hasn’t been renewed by CBS and here’s hoping after this crossover event, a season two will be inevitable.
The Supergirl/The Flash crossover event is something fans of all superhero shows do not want to miss. Between The Flash and Supergirl battling the Silver Banshee and Livewire to Barry being totally terrified of Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), this episode of Supergirl will be monumental in more ways than one.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on CBS and The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW
