Ever read a book and fall in love with a supporting, yet rich character? What happens to the best friend, sister, or whoever is used as the comic relief once a book has ended? Wouldn’t it be awesome if all of these side characters had their own spin-off series or book? Here are five characters who should have their own spin-offs:

Ronald Weasley from Harry Potter

Yes, Ron plays a huge role in the Harry Potter series, but how awesome would it be if he had his own series? What if we got more history and insight into the Weasley family? It would be really cool if readers could see his point of view and better understand him. What was he thinking when Harry first faced He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? When did his feelings for Hermione really start to grow? These are the questions readers need answers to. If anyone deserves a spin-off, it’s definitely Ron.

Cornelius “Neely” Nolan from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

In A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, readers get to enjoy the coming-of-age story of Francie Nolan. Her brother Neely is mentioned—and while his role in the book is fair, it’s not huge. He’s a very interesting character that readers would love to learn more about. How does his story end? What was he doing while we, as readers, were so engrossed by Francie’s story?

Jane Bennet from Pride and Prejudice

As the eldest Bennet sister, it’s only fair that Jane receive her own story. From Pride and Prejudice, readers got a pretty decent feel for Jane through her relationship with her sister Elizabeth as well as her marriage to Mr. Bingley, but what’s her real story? What does she like to do? What did she think of her mother’s wishes to marry off her and all of her sisters so soon?

Thomas “Tom” Buchanan from The Great Gatsby

How does one cheat on Daisy Buchanan with a woman who’s trying to escape her marriage? How does one decide to let their anger, jealousy, and rage cloud their judgement to the point where they point a gun at someone? All of these questions could be answered if Tom Buchanan had a spin-off. It would be wonderful to find out what he was thinking and going through while Daisy and Gatsby were running off together.

Queen of Hearts from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is full of so many rich characters, but one character that is often underappreciated is the Queen of Hearts. For starters, she’s usually confused with the Red Queen. If she had her own story, it would definitely help to differentiate her. Aside from that, there’s so much to love—especially that wonderful line, “off with their heads.” She needs a spin-off. A character this bold needs their story to be told.
