The last conference of the night was Sony’s, so let’s recap everything that was just announced!
Sony started off with a full orchestra that provided live music for all of its trailers, the first out of the gate being a brand new God of War. There wasn’t much time to catch your breath as they announced a brand new title, Days Gone, a post-apocalyptic zombie game with gameplay later showcased at the end of the conference.
The Last Guardian finally has a release date! Players can get their hands on Team Ico’s newest game October 25th. On top of that, more gameplay for Horizon Zero Dawn was showcased, as was another trailer for Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human.
There’s a new Resident Evil coming as well! Resident Evil VII: Biohazard will be available January 24th, and compatible with the brand new PlayStation VR, going on sale October 13th for $399. Fifty games will be made available for the VR by the end of the year, including Farpoint, Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission, and Batman: Arkham VR in October. VR compatibility will also be integrated into Final Fantasy XV, where players can play as one of the four main characters, Prompto.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare saw some gameplay with a release date of November 4th, and Modern Warfare Remastered debuted another trailer as well.
Sony has partnered with Activision to create fully remastered PS4 versions of Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped, and Crash will also be made available to play as in Skylanders. Sony also debuted a new trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, available in two weeks, and Insomniac Studio’s brand new Spiderman game for PS4.
Perhaps the biggest event of the night, the long-awaited return of Hideo Kojima was met with an appropriate amount of pomp and circumstance after the canceled Silent Hills and an arduous struggle with Konami. Kojima debuted the trailer for the first game from his brand new Kojima Productions—a game called Death Stranding, featuring a motion-captured Norman Reedus, a mysterious beach covered in dead sea creatures, and floating figures in the distance, all set to Low Roar’s I’ll Keep Coming. This collaboration between Kojima and Reedus comes after Reedus’s motion-capturing work on Silent Hills that was cut short and scrapped.
