Activision Plugs The Leak And Officially Announces Black Ops 4

Eagle-eyed NBA fans might have noticed a tweet recently from the league of a player wearing a hat with a very interesting logo. It didn’t take them very long to discover that it was from the next Call of Duty game, Black Ops 4

Now Activision has officially come out in front of the news with the announcement that the game will have a Community Reveal Event on May 17th, and launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12th.

The trailer doesn’t provide much information itself, but some of the imagery harkons back to the first Black Ops game which was set during the Cold War and even had sequences in Vietnam. Sequential games progressed in time, with Black Ops 3 being set in 2065.

Interestingly enough this release will break a 12-year tradition of having Call of Duty games launch within the first two weeks of November, a legacy that dates all the way back to Call of Duty 3 in 2006. On top of that Activision has scheduled it’s reveal event nearly a full month before E3, distancing themselves from the show and the crowded news cycle. We’ll have to see how Black Ops 4 stacks up in October.
