A Guide to Television Shows that Feel Like Fall

Bethany Hanson ’28 / Emertainment Monthly Staff Writer

Fall is here, and that means there are plenty of fall themed television shows for all audiences to enjoy to get into the fall spirit. What goes better with fall than fall themed television shows? Featuring television shows of all genres and themes, this article is the ultimate guide to the television shows with the most fall vibes. Whether you are a binge-watcher like myself, or a casual viewer, this guide will help you pick your new favorite fall television show. So grab your blankets and pumpkin spice lattes as I dive into the best fall shows.

When most people think of fall themed television shows, the first show to come to mind is probably Gilmore Girls. This show features small town vibes as viewers follow Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) Gilmore. Lorelai is the thirty three year old mother of sixteen year old Rory. The coffee addicted mother and daughter duo live in the town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Together, Lorelai and Rory have to navigate all the challenges that come with growing up. Gilmore Girls is definitely a must see television show if you love a drama-comedy.

This next fall themed television series is a blast from the past. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a television show that first aired in 1997. Even though the series is set in Sunnyvale, California, the supernatural element gives the show a more dreary vibe with a sense of impending doom. The show stars Sarah Michelle Geller as Buffy Summers who is what is known as a Slayer. As a Slayer, Buffy must seek out and destroy vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. While Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be classified as a supernatural horror, it is also a coming of age drama as Buffy and her friends face the challenges of high school and what comes after.

Sticking with the vampire mood, it wouldn’t be a fall television show list without The Vampire Diaries. This supernatural teen drama follows Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) as she battles her feelings for the Salvatore Brothers: Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The twist? Stefan and Damon are both vampires. It is your classic good vampire, bad vampire. If you are a fan of love triangles, The Vampire Diaries might be the show for you. However, what many viewers don’t know is that The Vampire Diaries was originally a thirteen book series. If you love the television show, I would recommend taking a deep dive into the books.

The last two television shows have been about vampires, so I thought we would switch it up. How does witches sound? Sabrina the Teenage Witch is a 90s sitcom perfect for anyone who wants a lighthearted, spooky television show to enjoy. Sabrina the Teenage Witch features witches, friendship, and more. The fall vibes are never ending with this television show.

The last television show is a little more niche. This show is none other than Haven. Haven takes place in Maine in a town sharing the same name as the show. Haven is a television show that is loosely based on Stephan King’s novella titled The Colorado Kid. The book and television series follow FBI Agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) as a routine work assignment leads her to Haven, Maine. Unlike other towns, many of the residents are afflicted with what the show calls Troubles. The lighting the show uses, combined with the dreary vibes, makes Haven the perfect show to watch in the fall.

Nothing compares to cozying up and watching a fall-themed television show with friends and family. These television shows perfectly encapsulate the fall atmosphere through the coloring, themes, characters, and more. Whether the shows mentioned give off spooky vibes or straight-up drama, there is something for everyone to enjoy. There are many more television shows that could have made this list, but for the sake of keeping this article a reasonable length, I will end with the five I mentioned above.
